Here are some commonly asked questions about bringing Book Trust to a new school:
Can I bring Book Trust to just a few students or to a single classroom?
At what grade level do you generally start the program?
How long does Book Trust last?
How much of a donor’s contribution goes directly to programming?
Why Book Trust? Why not just send a contribution directly to the school?
Can I bring Book Trust to just a few students or to a single classroom?
We ask that donors budget at least enough for one grade level to participate for a full school year. The additional impact is worth it!

At what grade level do you generally start the program?
Generally, we start with kindergarten and/or first grade. Then, each subsequent year, we add the next grade level within the school. Some donors have chosen to fund every grade level at once; that creates excellent impact as well.

How long does Book Trust last?
At its shortest term, Book Trust lasts one school year. We are a non-profit, donor-driven program, and it is always our intention to expand Book Trust to include all grade levels and then to remain a part of the school indefinitely. Our original schools are now in their 8th year of participation, and the long-term impact we have seen is amazing.

How much of a donor’s contribution goes directly to programming?
If you choose to make an online donation, you can specify whether your donation goes to programming (only books), operational expenses, endowment, or wherever your funds are most needed. If you have a special request, let us know.
To bring Book Trust to a new school or region, we ask our donors for a contribution of 4% ($2.52) above the per-child cost of $63 per year, for a total of $65.52 per child per year. Our operating costs diminish after the first year, so that additional cost lowers as the program progresses.

Why Book Trust? Why not just send a contribution directly to the school?
Through Book Trust you enlist a steward for your contribution dedicated to providing a very specific service—enabling book ownership. By contributing to Book Trust you also know exactly how and where your funds will be used—for a focused, established, proven program with clearly defined costs. We give our donors regular reports on usage, assessment, and current news. Donors even have access to individual accounts on the online Book Trust system, through which they can keep track of the progress of use of their donations!
Our research directly impacts the field of literacy and becomes more robust as we serve additional children and teachers.
