Serendipitous Impact on Math

An unexpected benefit from the Book Trust program is its widespread use by teachers to give their students real-world experience in practical math and budgeting.

From teachers in every state, we have heard that children quickly improve in budgeting and spontaneously work together to solve the ‘problem’ of what books they are able to choose with their money. Teachers take advantage of students’ excitement by turning book selection into a monthly classroom exercise.

Many have called Book Trust an excellent “math/reading integration lesson” – and even a way to familiarize students with how to comfortably navigate and fill in forms.  Other teachers have created Book Trust board games to help teach their students how to budget, choose, and complete their orders!
