Inspiring the Joy and Power of Reading
Inspiring the Joy and Power of Reading
Books inspire, transport, challenge, and comfort us. They shape our lives, offer us an escape, and allow us to experience worlds beyond our own. Consider the childhood books that allowed you to experience the magic of reading. Now imagine sharing that magic.
Book Trust’s program is rooted in an intentional focus on equity, to ensure that access to books and the agency to choose books of interest, is provided to those who need it the most. Over the course of the school year, Book Trust students choose and own up to 25 books. Students get to bring these books home and add them to their home libraries-libraries that are enjoyed by siblings, families and friends.
In low-income areas, there is an average of just one book for every 300 children – Book Trust and its partners are working to change this. Providing access to books of choice, and deploying parent engagement strategies-which help families support their child’s literacy journey-have never been more important.
With your help, we can ensure the joy and power of reading is within reach for every student.
Book Trust has partnered with Scholastic Book Clubs since our inception. Children choose books from Scholastic flyers every month of the school year.
Readers choose books that resonate with their interests. Books are offered in English and Spanish, and feature a diverse array of topics, characters and storylines so that all children have the opportunity to see themselves reflected on the page.
Students and teachers celebrate the arrival of books each month, inspiring a love of reading throughout the school year and summer.
Via family-focused resources, virtual and in-person read-alouds as well as home libraries, we engage entire families in reading.
