303 Magazine, a publication that showcases Denver’s evolving cultural landscape, joined Book Trust at the Book Lovers & Friends Bash on February 6, 2025. Reporter Sarah Ann Noel spoke with attendees and Book Trust’s Vice President of Development, Ben Reuler, to learn more about the organization’s work and impact.

Sarah writes “As Book Trust expands its mission to include more schools, higher grade levels and even literacy advocacy at the national level, the consideration of students with all backgrounds fit into this programming is of the greatest importance.”

The need for widespread increased book access and ownership was underscored with the recent release of the 2024 NAEP reading assessment which found 31% of fourth-grade students performed at or above the proficient level.

Ben explained that Book Trust students have opportunities to choose books they want to read and own, all in the spirit of creating joyful reading experiences.

In closing the article and reflecting on the event, Sarah writes, “We took turns tossing darts and swinging golf clubs, bidding on silent auction prizes and eating fries, and underneath all that, I sensed the joy Book Trust strives to generate. We all played together, and we celebrated. And it was pretty magical.”
