Our Program

With BookTrust, students curate personal libraries,

teachers have the tools to create joyful reading experiences,

and schools foster a culture of literacy!

Reading helps children make sense of the world. Their early immersion in a culture of literacy enhances the life-long joy and power of reading. This is possible when two things are true: books are accessible and the stories matter. Through Book Trust, thousands of educators and school administrators are part of a nationwide network making access to books possible for all students.

Bring Book Trust to your school!

How it Works

Over the course of the school year, teachers in Pre-K through Grade 5 Book Trust classrooms oversee the key components of the program by:

Access

Creating an environment for students to access a rich selection of culturally relevant, reading-level appropriate titles that allow them to see themselves while navigating new worlds.

Choice

Dedicating time with each book order for students to select books of choice, ensuring all students are making decisions motivated by their own interests, curiosity, and joy. Students order books multiple times throughout the school year.

Celebration

Hosting short, important moments in celebration of the choices students made, and welcoming the newest additions of books into students’ growing personal libraries.

Ownership

Promoting engaged reading and ownership beyond the walls of their classroom by encouraging students to share their love of reading with their families and friends.

We Put Students and Teachers
at the Center of Joyful Reading

Book Trust is the nonprofit partner that can support your classroom, school or district to increase book access, and promote engaged reading. For more than 20 years, we’ve partnered with hundreds of schools and districts to create sustainable classroom routines that foster opportunities for student choice/agency, validate student interest through celebrating book ownership, and support teachers as they facilitate joyful reading experiences. All of which seamlessly integrate into existing curricula.

Books for Children, from the Children’s Book Expert

Book Trust is the largest and longest-standing sponsored Scholastic Book Clubs partner! By collaborating with the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, we offer schools curated, developmentally and culturally relevant print book options for Pre-K through Grade 5 students at a fraction of the cost to schools.

Scholastic is proud of our more than two decades of work with Book Trust to provide all kids in participating schools the exciting experience of picking books for themselves through Scholastic Book Clubs…

Making Connections:
Funders Support Early Literacy Tools, Schools Foster a Culture of Literacy

As a nonprofit organization, Book Trust seeks outside donations and funding partners to cover program costs. School partners cover a fraction of program expenses except for instances when philanthropic funds are designated. Most Book Trust school partners apply DOE/Title 1 funds to cover school-based program costs.

Help Book Trust provide more students with the opportunity to select, celebrate and own books!
