By 8:00 pm on a clear Thursday evening in Denver, a teacher from Alsup Elementary School had picked up an axe and hurled it at the target. She wasn’t alone. Book Trust supporters from the Denver area gathered at Over Flyte—an event venue in a former air traffic control tower—for axe throwing, sports simulations, and to raise funds for a good cause.
Attendees enjoyed activities, dinner, drinks, a silent auction, and a “library” where books could be purchased with proceeds benefiting local Book Trust students.
In the 2023-24 school year, Book Trust partnered with 34 Denver-area schools and supported 11,059 students in accessing, choosing, and owning books to build their personal libraries. One of those schools is led by Dawn Menard who shared her Book Trust experience at the event. “I truly believe that because of our partnership this year, and the extreme hard work that my teachers put in, our school has finally reached the goal of 56% of our students reading at or above grade level,” said Dawn.
We’re grateful for the Denver community’s support and generosity!
