GlobalMindEd, a Denver-based inclusive success network, featured Book Trust President and CEO Patience Peabody in their latest newsletter.
Dedicated to creating a capable talent pipeline that closes the equity gap, GlobalMindEd connects underrepresented students to role models, mentors, internships, and jobs. The organization’s newsletter features stories of diverse role models and students to inspire their community.
“I am grateful to have a career focused on making our communities more inclusive places where opportunities abound,” Patience shared. “I believe that it can be really hard to become what you cannot see, so I strive to live, lead, and love in very visible ways so that young people everywhere—especially the most marginalized—know they are not alone in a world that can feel increasingly isolating.”
Patience highlighted pivotal experiences in her career path, including graduating as a first-generation college student from Hampton University and later earning a master’s degree from Georgetown. She went on to serve in leadership positions at LIFT, Washington D.C.’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education, and Flamboyan Foundation.
Patience also reflected on valuable lessons she has learned, and shared the advice she would give her younger self. “Trust your gut—it’s a valuable data point. Honor your ambition and assertiveness. And always take your paid time off!”
